About LangXR

James Brusuelas, PhD

James H Brusuelas is a creator and innovator at the intersection of language, the humanities, computer science and artificial intelligence. His research and publications cover a range of topics, from the reconstruction of fragmented ancient texts to the role and application of AI in the humanities and on university campuses. He brings expertise that spans multiple domains and that is grounded in both humanistic and scientific inquiry.

As a Professor at the University of Kentucky he has overseen and been a part of projects that have applied AI to study of ancient languages and manuscripts. He was part of the team whose research ultimately produced the Vesuvius Challenge, which continues to reveal the text hidden in the carbonized papyrus scrolls from Herculaneum in southern Italy. Prior to coming to Kentucky, he spent nearly a decade at the University of Oxford, where he oversaw multiple research efforts to apply innovative technology to the study of ancient Greek and Latin. His foundational research into XR and language learning resulted in the formation of LangXR.

James teaches at the University of Kentucky and maintains a leadership role in UK’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Hub.

Stacey Oliver, DSc

Stacey Sarris Oliver is a UX strategist and researcher with a doctorate in Information and Interaction Design. She brings deep expertise in human behavior, interaction design, and information architecture to the world of immersive technology.

With a background that bridges academia and startups, Stacey helps early-stage companies create meaningful, intuitive experiences—particularly in emerging tech spaces like XR. Her work focuses on designing systems that not only function but also inspire curiosity and engagement through smart, user-centered structures. She was part of the team behind Space Splitter, a roommate management tool recognized by Forbes as one of the four most disruptive apps of 2016.

Stacey has worked with clients including Private WiFi, Victoria’s Secret, Rubbermaid Commercial Products, and NYC Venture Connect, shaping UX strategies from the ground up. She also teaches courses in UX research, information architecture, and interaction design, with students who’ve gone on to roles at Google, Meta, HEB, and beyond.

She is currently writing Where’s the Horseradish? A Guide to Information Architecture—a practical, no-nonsense take on organizing the chaos of digital information.
